Abstract:

The adoption of innovative urban mobility solutions has been gaining momentum as European cities seek implementing sustainable and user-centric services to accelerate towards climate neutrality by 2030. Successful smart cities’ case studies highlight the importance of tailoring mobility services to meet user needs and preferences. We present case studies from the EU funded projects SPINE and GEMINI and talk about the adoption of new mobility solutions such as Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), Mobility as a Commons (MaaC), Mobility as a Feature (MaaF), and Mobility as a Resource (MaaR). Special emphasis is given in the integration of micro-mobility to prioritize pedestrians and micromobility users over cars, improving quality of life and accessibility. Based on the DUT project PERSEUS we share insights on the concept of the 15-minute city for effective planning of urban areas that enhance travelers’ experiences. These examples illustrate how co-creating with end-users through a design-thinking approach drives higher adoption rates of new mobility services.
