The aim of this program is to develop the highest-level graduates in the field of fluid-dynamics, capable of performing research and development (R&D) on theoretical and applied fluid dynamics problems of engineering interest. Graduates are expected to attain academic positions at university level, as well as work in companies and public institutions. They should contribute to technology transfer between academy and industry, improving the R&D culture in manufacturing companies, consulting engineering offices, and public institutions in charge of natural resources management and protection. Due to its original and innovative character, the program is expected to attract students from the whole country and from all of Latin-America as well.
Fluid-dynamics is a field of study in which several scientific and engineering disciplines converge. In order to provide the corresponding multidisciplinary training opportunities, the following academic departments are involved in the program: Computer Sciences, Physics, Geophysics, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering.
The program has 4 mandatory courses, which provide the mathematical, phenomenological and methodological fundamentals of the field: Mechanics of Continuous Media, Topics in Fluid-dynamics, Computational and Experimental Methods in Fluid-dynamics. These courses are supplemented with a number of flexible elective courses, which contribute specific elements the students need in order to develop their thesis in one of the particular program fields. The thesis is original research, which is expected to translate into one or more publications in scientific journals.
